Allen Oertel , Mustard Seed Peace Project
Water and Sanitation in Guatemala

Allen is a professional engineer and has been retired from Crawford, Murphy and Tilly Consulting Engineers in Springfield since 2015.  He became involved with the Mustard Seed Peace Project in 2013 after working as a professional mentor with student chapters of Engineers Without Borders at Southern Illinois University in both Edwardsville and Carbondale on projects in Honduras.  MSPP began working in northern Guatemala in 2004 mainly as an advocate for women’s socioeconomic and health issues.  In 2014, Allen founded the Engineering Advisory Committee within Mustard Seed to provide design expertise directly to Mustard Seed.  Currently they are working on water and sanitation projects within three small communities in the Ixcan (pronounced "ISH-khan") municipal area of Guatemala located near the Mexican border.  Mustard Seed is currently working with Mr. Lee Malany, a member of The Rotary Club of Springfield South, in hopes of securing a Vocational Team Training Grant through Rotary.  This grant would allow  the drilling of wells in all three communities
